SILENT MEDITATION:
On Saturday mornings we practice sitting and walking Silent
Meditation. We follow our breath - we follow each in breath and each out
breath. In so doing we encounter all the thoughts and distractions that
take us away from the present moment of our lives. And we let them go.
As we sit longer these thoughts become less frequent, and we are left
with our breath, a sense of space, awareness, and silence.
HATHA
YOGA:
The hatha
yoga classes involve yoga postures and breathing techniques. Each class
is carefully designed for the students - to meet your needs and to help
you deepen your yoga practice. Each class consists of: an initial
relaxation and centering period; gentle warm up stretches; yoga postures
that improve flexibility, tone the body, balance and center the mind; a
cool down practice; breathing and centering; final relaxation. Students
are encouraged to work at their own level. Students learn to experience
the connection between grounding themselves, breathing, and releasing
into the postures with grace and ease. Paola and other teachers at the
studio are able to modify poses to meet students' special needs
including injuries, pregnancies, and special interests.
KUNDALINI
YOGA:
The
Kundalini yoga classes involve rhythmic breathing and movement as well
as relaxation and mantra chanting. Kundalini yoga is a vigorous and
energizing style of yoga that helps move the energy that lies dormant
within us. During the Fall, Winter, and Spring terms we offer special
workshops to deepen your practice and expand your experience of yoga -
such workshops include Yoga Days with a vegetarian lunch, Meditation
workshops, and guest teachers.
BENEFITS
OF YOGA:
Yoga can
relieve many common problems such as insomnia, back ache, tight
shoulders, low energy, anxiety and stress. When you attend yoga classes
at Four Directions Yoga Studio you may find that yoga improves your
level of physical fitness, toning, strength, flexibility and range of
motion. On an internal level yoga can improve our sense of focus and
deepen our sense of well-being.
